THE CUSTOM PROCESS

1. Design Creation

  • Concept Development: Begin with a design that needs to be printed. This can be created using graphic design software.
  • Color Separation: If the design has multiple colors, each color will need to be separated into different layers.

2. Screen Preparation

  • Screen Selection: Choose the appropriate mesh screen based on the detail and type of ink to be used.
  • Coating with Emulsion: Apply a light-sensitive emulsion to the screen evenly and let it dry in a dark environment.

3. Exposure

  • Creating the Film Positive: Print the separated design onto a transparent film.
  • Exposure to Light: Place the film positive on the coated screen and expose it to a UV light source. The light hardens the emulsion except where the design blocks the light.

4. Washing Out

  • Rinsing the Screen: After exposure, wash the screen with water. The unhardened emulsion washes away, creating a stencil of the design.

5. Drying the Screen

  • Drying Process: Allow the screen to dry completely to ensure it’s ready for printing.

6. Set Up for Printing

  • Placing the Screen: Position the screen on the printing press, ensuring it's aligned with the substrate (t-shirt, poster, etc.).
  • Ink Preparation: Choose the ink and prepare it by mixing colors if necessary.

7. Printing

  • Applying Ink: Use a squeegee to push ink through the open areas of the stencil onto the substrate below.
  • Repeating Process: For designs with multiple colors, the process is repeated for each color, allowing for drying time in between.

8. Curing the Ink

  • Heat Treatment: After printing, the ink must be cured using a heat source (like a conveyor dryer) to set the ink properly and ensure durability.

9. Quality Control

  • Inspection: Check the printed items for quality, ensuring there are no defects or misalignments.

10. Finishing Touches

  • Final Touches: Perform any additional finishing steps, such as trimming or packaging.

11. Delivery

  • Shipping to Customers: Package and ship the finished products to customers, ensuring they receive their orders on time.

This process ensures high-quality prints that can withstand wear and washing, making screen printing a popular choice for custom apparel.
